Milkweed Bugs, Monday, April 6, 2020

We’ve been home for three full weeks as of today. Today we begin week four. I never expected this would happen. I have many, many questions about what happens next, and I’m sure you do too.

Since I moved two single bugs into the extras bag and discarded the nymph bag, I have fewer habitats to observe.

  • Mini-habitat #1 One adult and a nymph were on the paper towel. Still have many clutches yet to hatch. (see picture)

  • Mini-habitat #2 We have a bag of nymphs now. The clutch that was on the netting is gone. The little bugs are in every corner of the bag. (see picture below, right)

  • Mini-habitat #4 One clutch is very red (see picture below).

  • Mini-habitat #5 There are multiple clutches in this bag. It took these two a while but they seem to be making up for lost time.

  • Mini-habitat #7 No changes. Still no clutches and no mating.

  • Mini-habitat - Extras -All sorts of activity in this habitat. Two pairs were mating. Lots and lots of nymphs. Most of the little dots in the cotton are nymphs. A adult is near my finger in the picture

More observations to come on Wednesday, April 8th

Also, I created a new remind group for anonymous texting. Please join the remind group below and comment on today’s observations.
